Fort Cochi

Now Fort Cochin was another totally different flavour of India. I decided to go here for the last three days to get out of Varkala and also to spend time in an older, historical area for my final days in India. Plus Fort Cochi is  just an hour or so from the Cochin airport by a direct bus.

I stayed at a fantastic smaller hotel near the center of the old fort area called the Vintage Inn and this is a real treasure, clean and safe, cozy and friendly.  It was close to everything: the old basilica, the chinese fishing nets and the ocean boardwalk, fantastic restaurants and the place they show the Kathakali dance presentations and a walking distance from the old jewish market and spice markets.

Amazingly the same night i showed up at the vintage inn another woman, Shosh, who had also been at Sreedhari showed up too. So I had a best friend for 3 days to ‘do-the-town” and we did just that. The picture gallery below shows our adventures: the the portugese museum,

Ill do a blog post and post a video of the Kathakali Dance we went to – this is definitely worth watching and Ill also tell the story about how the guy at the Portugese museum did a bait-and-switch on me where he sold me some authentic Sandlewood oil and then when he was wrapping it carefully for the trip back switched it for some crappy stuff called Jungle Perfume. Darn him – I will write to the director of the museum because this is really annoying and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
