Hindu Temple Fun

I showed you the hindu temple in kootala. Now we get to see the hindu temple – Varkala style. This is actually a very funny story.

I met three germans in a restaurant and we all decided to make a trip to the Hindu Temple. It is right before you get onto the cliff top strip and is supposed to be one of the oldest temples around. So off we went.

The video below shows you as far as we got and i took some other shots of the roof of this temple. Apparently women arent allowed in anyway.

We were met at the bottom of a big stairway with a big sign that said, “Remove shoes here.” So we took off our shoes and then this guy started motioning to us to give him our shoes so we did – then he needed money. It was either 10 ruppes each of 10ruppees per shoe i never did understand but we gave him the shoes and proceeded up the stairs.

After about 20 steps we came upon  a kind of shack with a guy demanding more money. I couldnt understand how much it was and there was no sign but the german guy paid for it somehow. He really wanted to see this temple now and started bounding up the stairs two at a time. Just as he approached the big doors then both slowly came to a big slamming close right in front of his face. We learn that the temple closes from noon until 5pm and it is now noon.

I really admired this german guy cause he now was as determined to get his money back as he had been to see the temple. We succeeded with the guy in the shack but could only get a half refund for our shoes because this guy had actually put our shoes on a shelf for about 5 minutes.

I laughed so hard that tears were streaming down my face. One of those ‘once in a while’  funny moments where you just cant stop laughing. it keeps bubbling up. We all laughed and we went and i bought green coconut water for everyone at a nearby stand.

The picture on the above right shows another gate to this temple but we never got past a gate.
